Interstate 95 runs the length of the state, from Kittery in the south to Houlton in the north. US 1 is the major connecting artery for communities along the coast.

There are more than 7,000 licensed carriers providing interstate overland service to points in New England and the Atlantic seaboard. There are over 450 trucking firms that provide service within the state of Maine.

All of Maine, including major cities such as Portland, Lewiston, and Bangor, is congestion-free. Business in Maine is not slowed down by traffic jams. Maine has a 20-year maintenance and improvement plan to keep the highways safe and efficient.
